“A Night for Patriots” is the high point of the “More Wags for Warriors” campaign. “It will be a very special evening,” explained Mike Kitchens, Volunteer Chair of SMSD, “as SMSD launches our campaign to raise funds for the construction of a new Veteran/Canine Training Center.” Traditionally the biggest event of the year, this October’s fund- raising dinner will be bigger and better than ever. The annual event has grown from its humble beginnings as a Chili Dinner at the Tellico Village Community Church in 2011, where a maximum of 150 people could attend. It became so popular that it was soon moved to the Tellico Village Yacht Club, which could serve 250 people. Even there, attendance soared and tickets were quickly sold out. This year the event rises to a whole new level. It has been moved to “The Venue,” a new facility in Lenoir City that can accommodate up to 700 people. “A third of the tickets have already been sold,” said Mike, “and we are expecting a near sell-out crowd due to the special nature of this year’s event.” Along with a wonderful dinner, the evening will include displays of military memorabilia, moving tributes to our military, and a silent auction with a wide variety of goods and services—including original works of art, vacations, and assorted gift baskets from local retailers. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour (cash bar), during which people can greet friends and meet Wayne and Deby Kyle (of Chris Kyle, “American Sniper” fame). A formal program will follow, featuring John Becker —WBIR-TV personality and strong advocate for veteran’s causes—along with several other guest speakers, including Wayne Kyle. The event is open to the public and tickets are on sale now. A NIGHT FOR PATRIOTS ...
